Blessings of Ramadan

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

All praise is due to Allah, and may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The month of Ramadan, which has been awaited for eleven months and brings joy to the hearts of both young and old, is also approaching.

Allah Almighty said: “The month of Ramadan is that in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs of guidance and criterion.” (Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 185)

Imam Tabarani narrated in a hadith narrated by Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The best of months is the month of Ramadan."

Yes, this month is a blessed month. The Quran was revealed in it.

Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was the most generous of people. His generosity was at its peak during the month of Ramadan, when Gabriel (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would visit him every night to teach him the Quran. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was more generous in showing kindness to people than the wind blowing with great force.” (Narrated by Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim)

Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Seek goodness throughout your life and seek the blessings of Allah, the Exalted and Majestic. For Allah has blessings that He bestows upon whomever He wills.” (Reported by At-Tabarani, Bayhaqi, Ibn Abdul-Barr, Abu Nuaym, Ibn Asokir, and others)

Ramadan is the month of forgiveness. Its middle ten days are considered the "days of forgiveness" not only of the month, but of the year. In a narration by Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) about the virtues of Ramadan, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "It is a month whose beginning is mercy, its middle is forgiveness, and its end is freedom from Hell."

Our righteous predecessors also devoted special attention and time to the Holy Quran in this blessed month. The scholars of jurisprudence also completely stopped or reduced their pursuit of knowledge during this month and devoted themselves to reciting the Holy Quran. Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) used to recite the Holy Quran every day. Others would complete the recitation of the Holy Quran in three days. Still others would complete it in a week, while others would complete it in ten days. Qatadah (may Allah have mercy on him) would always complete the Quran every seven days, and when Ramadan came, he would complete it every three days, and when the last ten days came, he would complete it every night. Imam Ash-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) would complete the Quran sixty times in Ramadan. Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) used to stop studying hadith and his meetings with scholars when Ramadan arrived and devote himself to reciting the Quran. Sufyan Thawri, on the other hand, would gather all his extra prayers when Ramadan arrived and devote himself to reciting the Quran.

This supplication is beneficial if it is made during fasting, especially just before breaking the fast. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also said: “The supplication of three people is not rejected: a just imam, a fasting person until he breaks his fast, and the supplication of an oppressed person.” (Narrated by Ibn Majah, Tirmidhi, Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Bayhaqi, Ibn Hibban, Tayalisi, Ibn Khuzaymah, and Ishaq ibn Rahawayh)

May the coming month of Ramadan be full of blessings and good deeds for all of you. May your love, kindness, and prayers for each other be abundant in this month. May the blessings and splendor of Ramadan adorn your home.
